It seems that the motherboard engineers carefully thought out the best use of space and varied range of applications - we think they did a pretty good job.īIOS:Gigabyte uses a Phoenix AwardBIOS on the GA-965P-DQ6 - we used version F4 for our performance and stability testing. Without extending the rear I/O panel beyond ATX specification or losing something, there's little space to include anything extra. Gigabyte has dropped a second Gigabit Ethernet in favour of an arguably more useful Firewire socket. This provides a large range of I/O ports for the consumer to suit all tastes. Along with the parallel and serial connectors, there are: optical and coaxial S/PDIF, PS/2, 6-pin Firewire, four USB 2.0, RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet and six 3.5mm colour co-ordinated audio jacks. Industrial applications still tend to use serial and some still have parallel printers or parallel VFD/LCD devices that make these ports useful - some will appreciate Gigabyte's inclusion, while others would have rather seen something else instead. The rear I/O panel has a mix of legacy and new components.
